Two works from this artist *fyi, original designer of this very website and Meathaus.com*
I'm a cartoonist, author, illustrator, etc. etc. etc. art-motivational-speaker-teacher and design enthusiast. I can't write much because my kid is standing on my lap pushing all the buttons. I am definitely a collaboration-centric worker, always trying to achieve great things with my peers and absorbing as much creative energy and art lessons from them along the way. These posters are collaborations with R. Cory and James Jean. The Meathaus comics crew of course has been my main source of collaboration and cartoon-camaraderie over the last decade now. Between that and meeting/ working with Ralph and the great cartoon dudes out in LA, my life has been transformed in deliciously twisted ways. I'm back for good in hometown Philly, working for people all over the place and continuing on towards achieving my goal of drawing all day, every day.
Miss Mindy was sown and grown in Eagle Rock , CA. She is believed to be an elf or witch by most of the neighborhood children, due to her fondness of cooking spells & toy making. Her works consist mainly of woodcut paintings, shadow boxes, and fluid ink drawings and sketches. Mindy has an extreme affinity for past times, and loves to explore mood, expressions and bizarre humor.
Born into a family of artists and designers, she couldn’t escape creating art. If ever a word was uttered such as, “I’m bored” or “There’s nothing to do here” her Madre would retaliate, “You can always clean your room or do the dishes, honey.” So she realized at a very young age, to look as busy as possible and create stuff all the time, therefore avoiding a small percentage of house work (plus I just loved to draw & paint). Her grandmother worked as an ink and painter at Disney in the 1930’s, her grandfather was an illustrator, muralist, puppeteer, and didn’t have a bellybutton. Her Mother , is an accomplished mask maker and artisan, And her pops…. a mad scientist in the realm of electricity and combustion engines. She closely woks with her sister CJ Metzger on collaborative projects and art shows, and both have learned not to kill each other, because it makes it really hard to put on a show when ones’ sister isn’t alive.
Miss Mindy has written and illustrated two books with Baby Tattoo Books Publishing, “Artist Sisters: Box of Stories” & “ Miss Mindy’s Sassy Paper Doll Bonanza” debuting this year at wonder-con SF & comic-con in San Diego. She currently has a vinyl toy named “DINK” out in the Designer toy realm via Mindstyle toys, and another solo & collaborative toy line in the works. In Animation land, she has contributed to “El Tigre” and “The Mighty B!” at Nickelodeon Animation.

**UPDATE** RESPONSE FROM GENE DEITCH TO BAKSHI VIA E-MAIL:
"Hi Ralph, I listened to your recollections about my Terrytoons days, and think it's very perceptive. I don't remember giving you those old children's books or why, but I suppose it was that I felt they were not relevant to our work in those times. I certainly agree with you that all good art never grows old, but at that time I was focussed on what our immediate goals were. The old guys were a problem, because I felt and heard their resentment that a young fart (me) was brought in as creative director instead of one of the studio veterans.
That was obvious to me, and I thought I was doing what I could to appreciated their skills. I never fired any of them, but tried to employ their strengths. Among the ones you mentioned, I was especially fascinated with the uniqueness of Jim Tyer, a truly great. I used him to animated Flebus, and thought that was a great melding of the "old" and the "new." I appreciate your remarks; I think you did a worthy summing up of that remarkable, short, boiling moment of anmation history. Many thanks for the good words you said about me. I am well aware of the mistakes I made. It ended in disaster, but we did leave a mark!
XXX Gene"
**UPDATE** GENE DEITCH AND BAKSHI JAMES HOUND YOUTUBE VIDEOS COLLECTED AND/OR UPLOADED BY CHARLES BRUBAKER:
A product of two artists, I was always surrounded by an abundance
of art materials and inspiration. Whether working with pencil,
paint, Styrofoam or Lego I found ways to make my fantasy worlds a
bit more real.
After receiving a B.F.A. in illustration at Syracuse University in
1994, I was fortunate to be hired by Ralph Bakshi to paint
backgrounds for his Oh Yeah! Shorts. When this work was completed
and with Ralph's help I moved to California and continued working
in the animation industry. I refer to these years as graduate
school, continuing to learn from some of the animation world's top
artistic talent. It was during this time that I refined my voice as
a painter.
Although my influences and abilities have grown, my imagery seems
to grow out of an adolescent's sensibility. Strange environments
and absurd characters are the players in a demented adaptation of
my life story. I hope that within the madness the viewer will find
the comedy that is our existence.
For the past eight years, I have been showing my work in galleries
around the country. I live in Los Angeles with my wife, son and
dog. Visit my world at www.joevaux.com.
"Be excellent to each other!"
